Choose the download from Internet option. There is a CD's worth of download to follow. Hopefully, in the future, there will be a separate link on the website for it.

Try setting processor affinity to one processor. I'm assuming you have a dualcore. Another possibility is the number of locations and pilots you have bookmarked. For some strange reason the client software is burdened by these.
